Building Your Beachhead

Today is D-Day. I have really learned a lot from how important the first step is in doing anything. 66 years ago, WWII changed drastically when the Allies were able to own a little piece of the coast in Normandy. The price was huge, but very worth it because once it was established we could do exponentially more and likely grow the amount of area we could take back from the Nazis.

A great business consultant, and all around good American Mal Wattlington first helped me realize the importance of establishing a beachhead and how hard it is to breach that first defense, but once you overcome it will get easier.

Pleasure is better when business is finished

Having the freedom to postpone work when something really enticing is available is awesome. However, this freedom is easily abused. One of the more silent drawbacks is that when you do use your time to go do something fun you are not enjoying it as much as you would if you finished your work first! With your work done, you have a clearer mind and can enjoy the nicer things in life to a greater level. This has been a mantra of mine since college to motivate me to just get my work done already and enjoy life more. I hope it helps you too!

Blogging Your Autobiography

I am a believer in the utility of blogging. You can create what may seem to be small posts with a larger goal in mind. I want people to be able to know about me when my life is over (or after i’m put in one of those Futurama head bowls) – hopefully a long long time away.

As Ben Franklin said, “Little strokes fell great oaks”. I am a big fan of BF and particularly his autobiography, even though he never finished it. I feel the best parts are when he is accounting his early days in Philadelphia. There is a lot of excitement in his accounts, much more than when he is attempting to write while in his later years.

One of the main goals for this blog is to document what I am all about. There will be posts looking forward, and many looking back over the previous years of my life. Many posts will be marked private, and if you would like to gain access to them, please let me know.

I’ve had mixed feelings about the ol’ “Rick Roll”. My first encounter was frustrating, then i realized it was a joke and started to see some pretty funny ones. My personal favorite!

There are some pretty good ones out there.
